Moni | 莫尼
-
Moni was born into an artistic family in China and has lived in Singapore for more than three decades. Nurtured by her father’s passion for painting, she grew up immersed in art from an early age. She was later recognized by the renowned painter and educator Sun Qifeng, who accepted her as his sole female disciple. Under Sun’s meticulous guidance, together with formal training at the Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts and the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Moni established a profound foundation in both the technique and theory of traditional ink painting.
Her works are distinguished by expressive brushwork and a deep spiritual resonance—vigorous and unrestrained, yet imbued with the refinement of classical aesthetics. Widely collected and honored, her paintings reflect both mastery of tradition and bold innovation.
Living in Singapore, a tropical land where Eastern and Western cultures converge, Moni draws inspiration from its vibrant sunlight and luxuriant natural scenery. This environment not only enriches her with diverse cultural nutrients but also sharpens her sensitivity to color and vitality. Her paintings are exuberant yet measured, marked by forceful brushstrokes and weighty compositions. They unfold with a visual intensity that merges the contemplative spirit of Chinese ink with the freedom of Western Expressionism, Mysticism, and Romanticism. Beyond a synthesis of techniques, Moni has forged a unique artistic realm where past and present, East and West, converge in both form and spirit.
